Sausalito, Calif. – Nov. 1, 2024
BetaKit’s CEO Siri Agrell spoke to Mastercard’s Amisha Parikh, vice president of Security Solutions, North America, about being on the front line of global cybersecurity and how small business owners can help protect themselves.
Parikh quoted Cybersecurity Ventures saying that cybercrime, if it was a country, would track as the third largest economy in the world, only behind the U.S. and China. That’s in terms of the size of losses and the value of the fraudulent theft. It’s forecasted to reach over $10 trillion USD by 2025.
It’s not if it happens, it’s when it happens, Parikh warns small businesses, referring to the new ways that they can get hacked, compromised, or scammed. But there is hope, and solutions, for SMBs. The Mastercard Trust Center includes resources to assist businesses with cybersecurity education and advice, including a complementary Cybersecurity Assessment Tool. “The fight against fraud and cybercrime isn’t one we can go at alone,” says Parikh. “We are all in this together.”
